My Passion for Breathing

I never would have guessed that something I used to do as a kid, just for fun, would come full circle and become my life's work. But looking back, it all makes sense.

Where It Started

Growing up, I was always fascinated by pushing my limits—especially when it came to breathing. I remember sitting in front of our old Windows 95 desktop, using the timer to see how long I could hold my breath. I wasn't training for anything; I was just obsessed.

That carried over to the pool. Every time I was in the water, I tested how far I could swim on one breath, how long I could stay submerged, and how still I could become beneath the surface. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was already training breath control, learning how thoughts and effort impact oxygen consumption.

Then life happened. Those habits faded. I got into strength training, eventually opening my own gym. I poured everything into coaching, helping athletes get stronger, fitter, and more resilient. But in all of that, I had forgotten about my passion for breathing. It wasn't even on my radar anymore.

The Moment Breathwork Came Back into My Life

That changed in 2015 when I heard a podcast about breathwork. The idea that just changing your breathing could push human limits and unlock potential struck a deep chord in me. It felt like a part of me that had been buried for years suddenly woke up. I started practicing and just like that, I was hooked.

I quickly dove into research, courses, and experimentation with a variety of techniques. I wanted to know everything about breath training. But the deeper I went, the more I realized—this wasn't just about me.

As a coach and athlete, I saw how many people—strong, fit, disciplined people—had no control over their breathing. They could lift heavy, run fast, push through workouts, but their breathing was holding them back. They weren't just limiting their performance; they were limiting their recovery, focus, and even their overall happiness.

Realizing the Gap: Breath Control's Impact on Athletes

When I started incorporating breath training into my gym, I assumed everyone would be as excited about it as I was. But I quickly realized that not everyone cared about fine-tuning their breathing to reach the top 1% of their sport. That's when I made a pivotal decision: if I wanted to make the biggest impact, I had to go all in on coaching elite athletes. So, after six years of gym ownership, I sold my gym and committed fully to breath coaching.

As I dove deeper into coaching athletes on their breathing, I hit a wall. Every breathwork methodology I had studied claimed to be the solution, but in practice, no single approach worked for everyone. Some athletes struggled with air hunger while others didn't. Some needed to improve their diaphragm engagement, while others had the mechanics but lacked mobility to fully expand their lungs. And different sports demanded different breathing adaptations. There wasn't a one-size-fits-all answer, and I started to wonder—what if breath training wasn't as effective as I believed? What if I had sold my gym and bet everything on something I couldn't standardize?

Creating a Breath Training Method That Works

Instead of forcing athletes into a single philosophy, I built a system that met them where they were. I refined my approach to be simple, practical, and measurable. I pulled the best techniques from different schools of thought and created individualized programs based on assessments—tailored to each athlete and their sport. And that's when everything clicked. Athletes weren't just improving their endurance or recovery; they were becoming more resilient, more confident, and more dominant in their sport.

Breath Affects Every Aspect of Life

Now, I don't just teach athletes how to breathe—I teach them how to breathe for their sport. The impact speaks for itself: faster recovery, stronger mental focus, better stamina, and the ability to push harder when it matters most. Breath training went from being a niche concept to an essential tool for peak performance. And I get to witness the transformation in real time—when an athlete finally feels the difference and realizes they've unlocked a whole new level of their potential.

Breathwork didn't just change my athletic performance. It changed how I handle stress, how I recover, and even how I show up for my family. It's more than just training—it's a way to take control of your body and mind.

This is why I do what I do—because better breathing doesn't just unlock your potential, it enhances your energy, resilience, and joy in life.
